Last November I was asked to think about a sculpture that would tell the story of the old lighthouse in Harlingen. At the foot of the old lighthouse are four little cottages. Two of them will be a bed and breakfast, just as the lighthouse is now for several years.
I new straight away I would love to make the lighthouse keeper for this project. He must have lived there in this little cottage and take good care of the lighthouse. In my imagination I saw him sitting at his strong wooden table, eating or reading books. Every now and then the lighthouse keeper comes out of his little cottage and stands in his garden on his bare feet, and looks up to the light.

After discussing it with the owner of the lighthouse I was given the wonderful opportunity to make a life size bronze sculpture of the lighthouse keeper for this project. I worked on the sculpture for months, and on the 30th of April the lighthouse keeper was revealed and is now looking up the light of the old lighthouse in Harlingen.
